Steve Hays

Partner-in-Charge, RubinBrown’s Home Builder Services Group


Steve is the Partner-in-Charge of RubinBrown’s Home Builder Services Group. His experience includes extensive knowledge of audit, tax and business consulting matters related to clients in the home building, land development, contracting, real estate and mortgage banking industries. The St. Louis Business Journal has named Steve “Who’s Who in Real Estate”.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the National Association of Home Builders where he was a featured instructor for various home building training sessions, both locally and nationally, including annual conventions and a member of the Business Management and Information Technology Committee. He is a member of the Home Builders Associations of Colorado, St. Louis and Kansas City where he serves on the Associates and Federal Government Affairs Committees and a member of the University of Missouri—Columbia School of Accountancy Advisory Board

Steve is a feature author and columnist for various trade publications, including Cost of Doing Business Studies, The Business of Building, Measuring Your Success, Builders Management Journal, Single Family Builder, Builder Magazine, Builder News, etc. He has served as a judge for Builder Magazine’s America’s Best Builder, co-author of NAHB’s Revised Chart of Accounts, and co-author of Cost of Doing Business Study.

Steve is also heavily involved in community activities. He is a current Board Member of the Saint Louis Zoo, past President of the Board of Directors at St. Louis Ronald McDonald House Charities and current Chair and Co-Chair of the St. John’s Hospital Ronald McDonald House Building and Capital Campaign Committees. He has also served as the President of the Board of Directors, of the Mizzou Tiger Club - St. Louis; past Chair, Tiger Romp Event; and was the recipient of the Gateway Tigers Distinguished Service Award. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors, Greenbriar Hills Country Club; Board of Regents, Our Little Haven; and Intercollegiate Athletic and Alumni Association Athletic Committees, University of Missouri – Columbia; and the Board of Directors, Friends of the New Cathedral. He has also managed and coached children’s baseball and basketball teams.

Steve holds a B.S. in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Missouri—Columbia.
